ARCOmadrid 2013 call for galleries – participation at ARCOmadrid 2013

Via E-flux

ARCOmadrid is launching its 2013 edition with Turkey as Guest Country, to be held on 13–17 February next year. As it continues evolving into a fair for discovery and exploration, it will continue to focus on the artists and the programmes of the participating galleries, while introducing new initiatives promoting its facet as a meeting place bringing together the most active professionals and international collectors.

One of the main programmes of the Fair will be FOCUS TURKEY. A selection of galleries chosen by the curator, the head of research and programmes at Istanbul’s SALT, Vasif Kortun, in partnership with the Turkish Embassy in Spain, will bring the contemporary artistic production of this emerging market to Madrid. Turkey’s presence in the city will also be enhanced by exhibitions and other activities in Madrid’s leading institutions and museums.

The curated programmes are also widening their focus, so that OPENING will go from being a section exclusively devoted to European galleries to embrace the international scene. Meanwhile, SOLO PROJECTS will present a selection of specific projects by Latin American artists, and after the positive reaction to the last edition, the “Highlighted Artist” and Solo Objects initiatives will return.

ARCOmadrid’s activities are once again geared to promoting collecting and the sharing of projects and information among professionals. With this in mind, the Fair will welcome the 2nd Meeting of European and Latin American Museums, organised in collaboration with MNCARS; the 11th Expert Forum, and for the third time the Professional Meetings.

In the frame of the Experts Forum some new activities are being prepared which will feature the presence and intervention of the main opinion leaders and contemporary art critics online. To do this, ARCOmadrid is studying the most influential of the different platforms. Everyone who is interested in sharing the critics, bloggers or essential sites they follow, can do so at actividadesarco@ifema.es.

After constituting the Fair’s new Organising Committee, the window for requesting participation is from 23 April to 3 July. The Organising Committee of ARCOmadrid 2013 consists of Helga de Alvear –Galería Helga de Alvear; Rebeca Blanchard – Galería NoguerasBlanchard; Luciana Brito – Luciana Brito Gallery; Pedro Cera – Galeria Pedro Cera; Christopher Grimes – Christopher Grimes Gallery;  Íñigo Navarro – Galería Leandro Navarro; Guillermo Parra – Galería Parra & Romero; Moisés Pérez de Albéniz - Galería Moisés Pérez de Albéniz-; Thomas Schulte – Thomas Schulte Gallery and Max Wigram – Max Wigram Gallery. Also, as in other recent years, the Appeals Committee and the Committee of Honor composed by collectors and institutions are maintained.
